Top Secret: Groceries!

Never in my life did I think my grocery purchases would have to be kept top secret...

A few days ago, I stopped into one of the two small shops in town. I bought some tofu and the shop owner asked me what I had planned for dinner. I told her that I'd stir-fry some vegetables -- green peppers and carrots and onion -- to eat with the tofu. She said it sounded nice... and then commented that I must have visited the other shop in town for the vegetables!

I felt so bad! Little, old ladies are soooooo damn good at laying on the guilt trip!

In other news, I've had a kabi attack. Kabi is mold and mold is no good! I found it on the walls, bookshelves, on my hand-made cork bulletin board and all over my winter clothes and suitcases. I've also had to throw out several pair of moldy shoes. Shoes! I LOVE shoes! It was so painful parting with my shoes. Everything else has been cleaned up except for the clothes but there is rain forecast for this weekend so my efforts will be, er, hampered. Or dampened.

Seriously, though, so many awful things have happened to me recently that I'm ready to curl up in a ball and start an early hibernation. Luckily, I do have a few things to be happy about: classes with my adorable, energetic students; the fact that my sister is sending me an awesome present soon AND coming to Japan to visit, along with another aunt and uncle; and an old friend from Turkey is back in Japan... and, bless his heart, called me last night -- right in the middle of my first good cry in ages!

I'd like to leave you with an excerpt from a prayer that was sent to me by my Godmother:

Help me, like Saint Francis,to be more of a fool in this world...
