Blogger for Word

This is my first time using Blogger for Word… not sure if it will work well for me, but it’s worth a shot!

Question of the Day

What do you do when you spill black coffee on your laptop keyboard and, as a result, some keys fail to work?

This happened to me last winter.  I lost use of the left, right and down arrow keys – thank God I’ve still got that up arrow! – as well as the full-stop and question mark keys.  A few more aren’t working, but there are duplicates on the other side of the keyboard (shift, alt & ctrl, for example).

Luckily, Windows offers an On-Screen Keyboard (go to Start – Programs – Accessories – Accessibility – On-Screen Keyboard) that stays on top of programs like Word or Firefox and allows users to “type” into documents, address bars and the like.  Before finding this handy little thing, I had to cut-n-paste the “dot” in dotcom and either end my questions with a “Q” or, if one was handy, a cut-n-pasted “?”.

For Word, I’ve found I can make special adjustments by going to Insert – Symbol – (choose symbol) – Short Cut Key – Assign.  Now, I type ALT+, for a full-stop, ALT+! for a question mark, and ALT+\ for a backslash that tilts right!

Even though I’m used to my crazy keyboard, it really bothers other people when they try to use it.  Nobody can type an e-mail address, a web address, use arrow keys or the right shift key – it’s funny but it also discourages them from trying to use my computer.  Which, to quote Martha, is a good thing!
